Scientists have discovered a revolutionary new treatment that makes you live longer. It enhances your memory and makes you more creative. It makes you look more attractive. It keeps you slim and lowers food cravings. It protects you from cancer and dementia. It wards off colds and the flu. It lowers your risk of heart attacks and stroke, not to mention diabetes. You’ll even be happier, less depressed and less anxious. Are you interested?Ifso the treatment, according to proven scientific research carried out by Dr Matthew Walker, is to sleep! In today’s busy world many people have developed bad habits that impacts upon their sleep detrimentally. Sleep impacts upon all aspects of life so I thought I would share with you 10 top tips to help you sleep more soundly:-1. Establish a consistent sleep scheduleKeeping consistent times for going to and getting up from bed regulates your body’s internal clock which helps you to fall asleep, get up naturally and allows your body to heal itself. Sleeping more at weekends cannot make up for any lost sleep during the week!2. Switch off all electronic gadgets one hour before your bed timeAll gadgets (computers, phones, tablets etc) emit a blue light which effectively interferes with your body producing the sleep hormone melatonin. Instead do something which you find relaxing (reading a book, taking a shower/bath, listening to calming music, self-hypnosis, meditation etc).3. Make your bedroom a cosy space just for sleeping and imtimacyRemove any clutter and make your space really calming.4. Avoid or reduce caffeineAny caffeine you consume after lunch time will still be in your system at bedtime so reducing your caffeine, especially from midday can help to significantly improve your sleep!5. Be physically active – consistentlyWhatever your physical ability keeping a daily activity routine (e.g. going for a walk / gym etc) will help keep your body’s internal clock regulated.6. Be present in all activitiesWhatever you are doing use all of your senses to keep your mind in the present moment. When your mind is in the present moment you cannot be anxious as that is in the future.7. Eat meals at consistent times and avoid late snacking or eatingEating late can lead to indigestion and also prevents the body from healing during the sleep state as it is busy digesting food.8. Avoid or reduce your alcohol intakeHaving a few drinks may feel like it’s helping you to relax but it robs you of much needed healing and sleep. Consider what else you can do to relax and reduce it gradually by replacing it with a healthier option. If you feel the need to drink often ask yourself why and consider seeking help to address the underlying cause.9. Keep afternoon snoozes shortIf you feel the need to nap in the afternoon ensure it is before 3pm and make it short (max 30 mins and use an alarm to wake you).10. Snuggle down positivelyBefore going to bed you may wish to write down anything on your mind. As you snuggle down have the intention of sleeping well, allow any unhelpful thoughts to drift away to the universe, take 10 really deep breaths (breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth) noticing how your body feels. Think about happy memories, positive things or listen to calming music/hypnosis/meditation.As a gift I am offering you the chance to listen to my ‘Relaxation and Letting go of worries” hypnosis recording” free of charge taking you to a place in your mind where you can relax, heal and energise. Today I attended the Newport Holism Centre’s Mind, Body and Spirit event (held in Langstone Village Hall) where I gave a presentation on how to help people sleep more effectively. It is shocking to think that the World Health Organisation has actually declared a “sleep loss epidemic” in developed nations as a result of two thirds of adults failing to get the recommended 8 hours sleep per night. This has detrimentally and significantly impacted upon both physical and mental wellbeing of people and unless individuals, education systems, employers and government policy take responsibility and make changes to allow people to work flexibly to enable them to learn/work at the optimum time for them the trend is likely to continue to worsen.
I was also absolutely delighted to share with the group a reading which was given specifically to me yesterday to share with the group by one of my spiritual guides:
Dreams
In our dream state we do so much – as well as restoring our bodies to optimum health we focus on what we need and want in our life. Our emotions come flooding through in our dreams which are often confusing to us at the time, but with the benefit of hindsight, they always make sense. Take control of your lives, achieve what you want and need but above all remain true to your personal values. Wealth has no use if you don’t have your health. Counting pennies will not create memories. Do things that will make you smile and laugh when you look back and reflect. Create circles around you that are filled with love, trust and genuine friendship. Dispense with falseness and things or people who do not impact upon your life positively for they are simply unwanted baggage. Love as much as you can, live within your means and cherish everything around you.
If you would like to benefit from a relaxing group meditation followed by spiritual or crystal healing why not join us on any Tuesday evening at the Newport Holism Centre (based in the Langstone Village Hall, Old Chepstow Road, Langstone, NP18 2ND) from 7pm till 9.30pm. Alternatively if you would prefer a one-to-one Spiritual Healing/Hypnotherapy/Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) session I would be delighted to help you.
