What is Reiki and how does it work?
Reiki is a natural healing energy that works holistically – on the whole body, mind and spirit. It activates the body’s immune system, is gentle and non-invasive. It is available to everyone even children and animals.
Reiki is a relaxing treatment where natural healing vibrations are transmitted through the hands of the Reiki Practitioner (acting as a conduit) to the body of the recipient whilst sitting or laying down. The purpose of a Reiki treatment is to relieve stress and pain, induce relaxation, release emotional blockages, accelerate the body’s natural healing process, balance subtle body energies and supports other medical modalities including traditional therapies.
Reiki was developed by Dr Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century. The word ‘Reiki’ means ‘Universal Energy’ and it is activated by intention working on every level – physical, mental and emotional.
Eastern culture has always recognised and worked with this energy (referred to as ‘ki’ in Japan, ‘Chi’ in China and ‘Prana’ in India). Other complementary therapies such as Acupuncture, Yoga and Tai Chi are also based upon the need for energy to flow freely to maintain optimum health.
Reiki healers act as a channel for transferring the healing ‘universal’ energy to the person who needs it. This is done either sitting in a chair or laying on a therapy bed and can also be carried out distantly which is just as effective as healing carried out in person. Reiki is not a religion but a healing connection and as such no faith is required just an openness to receive the healing energies. By healing yourself you are accepting responsibility to bring more wellness, comfort and joy into your life.
Reiki is affiliated with the Complementary & Natural Health Care Council (CNHC) which is recognised by the medical profession and is offered in a variety of healthcare settings (including private practice, complementary therapy centres, GP surgeries, hospitals, hospices, cancer support groups, post-operative recovery, drug rehabilitation, prisons, HIV/AIDS centres and in the care of the elderly).
Lisa can also provide Reiki healing sessions in care settings or hospitals with the agreement of the nurse/doctor respectively responsible for the client’s care plan.
If you are unable to attend the clinics then healing can still be via distance dealing. A consultation will take place by telephone/Skype/Zoom and the healing will then be given just as if you were in the consultation room.
Lisa started using Reiki personally in 2010 when she completed Reiki 1 training with Dr Grace Lloyd. In 2017 she completed Reiki 2 with Mrs June Wilkinson and became a Reiki Practitioner. In 2019 Lisa studied Reiki further in Japan and was delighted to become a Reiki Master & Teacher. In 2020 Lisa will be teaching Reiki Healing courses – Self Healing (Level 1): for you to embrace Reiki in your daily life and to help your friends and family, Reiki Practitioner (Level 2): train to become a Reiki Practitioner and Reiki Master/Teacher (Level 3): train as a Master Practitioner.
After a Reiki treatment it is always advisable to drink plenty of water as the body starts to cleanse itself by eliminating toxins and this will assist the process. Most clients share that they feel very calm and relaxed following their therapy and others say that they feel rejuvenated. I suggest that you allow yourself a little time after your session to continue relaxing and give your body the opportunity to carry on healing.
In addition to providing one to one healing sessions in the clinics Lisa also attends various health and well-being events throughout the year promoting complementary therapies and sharing the benefits of healing with many people.
