Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis to resolve emotional issues, make self-improvements and manage pain effectively. Hypnosis is a relaxed state in which the client becomes highly responsive to agreed suggestions which will improve the client’s wellbeing. It enables the hypnotherapist to work with the subconscious part of the client’s mind which is far more powerful than the conscious mind.
Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that everybody experiences regularly. How often when driving or reading a book do you lose time? This is a form of hypnosis.
The ability to be hypnotised is not related to intelligence, personality, character or imagination.
Hypnosis has been around since time began and guided hypnosis has been used for several hundred years. It has been endorsed by the British Medical Association for the last 60 years or so.
The majority of people can be hypnotised safely and effectively. However, there are certain medical conditions and instances where hypnotherapy is not deemed suitable for. At your first appointment details of your medical history are taken in order to assess your suitability for hypnotherapy. In certain instances we may request a letter from your GP confirming that they are happy for you to pursue hypnotherapy treatment, may defer your session or may inform you that you are not suitable for hypnotherapy.
Yes- most people remember what happens during their therapy. However, just like when you watch the television, you might not be able to recall all of the details as you may feel so relaxed that you ‘switch off’ momentarily. However, the subconscious mind pays attention to everything.
Your therapy is personalised to meet your needs and is discussed and agreed with you prior to the therapy taking place. You will be in complete control during the therapy session and can even speak to the hypnotherapist should you wish to do so.
No– if the trance is not completed by the hypnotherapist the client would either fall asleep or more likely get bored and awake.
No– we are retraining your mind not sticking a plaster onto you.
We all experience the hypnotic trance many times throughout the day. Just before you go to sleep your body senses slow down allowing you to gently drift off to sleep. The hypnotic trance feels similar to this relaxed drifting off feeling but there is one main difference – when in a hypnotic state you do not go to sleep and your subconscious mind actively listens to the agreed suggestions which the hypnotherapist makes. The majority of clients describe their hypnotherapy therapy as being a very relaxing experience.
Most people feel a sense of deep calm and relaxation after a session.
Yes – you will be in complete control of your faculties after a hypnotherapy session.
In most cases, between 2 and 6 sessions are required dependent upon both the client and the issue being treated. For example help with smoking cessation and simple phobias are normally 2 sessions but long standing and more complex issues may take longer (e.g. low mood/severe phobias/trauma). At your first consultation Lisa will assess your needs and inform you how many sessions are likely to be needed.
