We are not born with habits it is a behaviour that is learned (e.g. from watching others) or developed as a means of coping. Whatever the unwanted habit (e.g. nail biting, skin picking, teeth grinding, hair pulling, smoking etc.) when it started it would have developed at a time when you were feeling vulnerable. Additionally, at that time you would have thought that it was in your best interest to engage in whatever the behaviour was. For example, it may have been a distraction from dealing with difficult feelings or emotions. However, the habit is now no longer useful or wanted but still persists.

Hypnotherapy can help to identify the root cause of the habit, work through the emotions attached with it and then develop healthier ways to deal with situations or emotions which arise in the future. The number of sessions required varies. Simple habits (e.g. smoking) may be treated in just one or two sessions but more complex habits, or if you experience other anxiety related conditions, then further sessions maybe needed.
