A lovely client of mine, who I have only helped so far with a couple of CBT sessions, has just shared that she was felt guided to write this beautiful poem yesterday on anxiety which she has kindly allowed me to share with you. Helen Greenaway is so very gifted and exceptionally kind too to share her very personal journey which I am sure so many of you who have experienced anxiety can relate too. I hope it gives you comfort and hope to overcome the anxiety which you may be experiencing:-
I’ve searched and I’ve searched but I can’t find a way Intrusive thoughts that won’t go away I’m obsessed with the internet it’s a daily chore The more I go on it I seem to want more All that searching for answers how will I get better I’ve even thought about writing God a letter What would I ask him would HE know why Each day I wake up I just want to cry Deep deep feelings confusion, despair I feel so helpless does anyone care Doctors can’t help except offer a pill Why can’t they see this just makes me feel ill It’s the pills that started this nightmare of mine Until antibiotics I was feeling just fine Then I woke up one morning my mind not my own Chest started pounding I felt so alone Each day getting worse the sickness, the shaking Loss of appetite and muscles all aching Which leads to my body losing so much weight I can tell you now this has not felt Great In desperation without a doubt I couldn’t think clearly I just wanted out Thinking like that just wasn’t right I need to be here and put up a fight Anxiety it just takes over your mind When the person you are is so loving and kind So I have to remember each day and each night To talk to myself and continue to fight It’s a very long road so no need to pretend That this bitch of anxiety is soon going to end So with CBT and sound advice I will plod on whatever the price Life is for living and live it I will I’ll do it all without taking a pill I will talk to anxiety I WILL make it my friend And hope that one day it will come to an end.
Thanks so very much for sharing your beautiful words Helen.
