Empowering you to become healthier and happier
Empowering you to become healthier and happier

This weekend, my partner David and I had the pleasure of enjoying a truly refreshing getaway at Hawkwood College in Stroud. Nestled in the countryside, it was the perfect setting for a relaxing retreat. Our weekend was centered around an activity that has been gaining popularity worldwide—Forest Bathing, known as “Shinrin-yoku” in Japan, where the practice originated.
Forest Bathing involves immersing oneself in the natural environment of a forest, not just through sight but through all the senses. It’s a simple yet profound way to reconnect with nature and, in turn, with ourselves. We spent two days amongst the trees, practicing breathing exercises, mindful walking, and truly engaging with the natural world around us.
As we slowly walked through the forest, we focused on each breath, inhaling the fresh woodland air deeply and exhaling all our tension. We also tuned in to the soft sounds of rustling leaves, the birds singing high above, and the gentle crackling of twigs underfoot. The vibrant green of the trees and the earthy scent of the forest floor provided a feast for our senses, helping us to feel more grounded and present. We also had some lovely treats such as hawthorn tea which complemented the dried apple pieces perfectly. We sat around a cosy fire in a beautiful wooden atrium and as we shared our experiences with each other we indulged in delicious hot chocolate with home made sweet chestnut treats too!
Forest bathing has been scientifically proven to reduce stress, improve mood, and even boost the immune system. Studies suggest that the practice lowers cortisol levels, reduces anxiety, and can improve focus and energy. For us, it was a chance to unwind, slow down, and enjoy the calming effects of nature together.
Our time in the woods was a beautiful reminder of the restorative power of nature and how taking time to slow down and connect with the natural world can have profound benefits for both body and mind. We left Hawkwood feeling refreshed, recharged, and deeply appreciative of the tranquil experience.
We look forward to inviting you to join us to visit some of our wonderful local forests soon!
