This awareness day celebrates oysters which are considered a delicacy across the world. I didn’t realise just how many species that there were until I visited the oyster market in Concale, France last year and was amazed by the available choice. Oysters have been consumed by humans for centuries and whilst pollution and overfishing have indeed reduced oyster supplies, oysters still remain a popular delicacy. Whilst traditionally they have been considered to be an aphrodisiac oysters are actually very rich in zinc, calcium, iron, selenium, vitamin A, and vitamin B12.
To celebrate National Oyster Day, are you going to enjoy some oysters or do you plan to indulge soon perhaps in a lovely restaurant? You never know you you might just love them! Absolutely delicious especially with some fresh lemon.
Enjoy!
