January is Love your Liver month

21st January 2024 By Lisa Pryce-Jones

In January the British Liver Trust promote their Love your Liver campaign.  Did you know that the liver is the only organ that can regenerate and repair itself with the right conditions?  When most people think about the liver alcohol is very often the first thing that pops into mind. Did you know that the liver has over 500 functions?  This includes absorbing nutrients, cleansing toxins, fighting infections and making enzymes and proteins which are responsible for repairing damaged tissues and blood clotting too.

There are many causes of liver damage, of which some can be genetic or auto-immune, but it is estimated that over 90% of liver disease is calculated to be caused by lifestyle choices such as alcohol, obesity and viral hepatitis.    Liver disease, if addressed early, can be reversed which may prevent liver disease and even cancer.

So what can you do to give your liver the love it needs now?

If you need to drink alcohol at all, drink it more responsibly

Drink sensibly and aim for at least several consecutive alcohol free days each week. Could you drink alcohol just occasionally at special occasions rather than at home?  If you binge drink could you start having a glass of water between drinks?  If you are reaching for your favourite tipple too often ask yourself why you are doing it – is there an underlying issue that needs to be addressed?

Increase your nutrients

Start to eat healthy and nutritious foods.  Avoid processed foods (which are packed with preservatives and sugar) and go back to basics – plenty of fresh vegetables with a little fruit (aim to eat all the colours of the rainbow daily which helps all your body) and remember to include your favourite choice of protein with each meal too which helps to keep you fuller for longer which will reduce your cravings too.  Ignore the marketing we have been subjected to for donkeys years including Mr Kellogg’s.  Remember sugar is the most toxic substance on the planet and this includes too much fructose from fruit.  Remember there is no such thing as ‘free food’ and we are what we eat.  So if you want your body to regenerate, just like roses give it feed and conditions that will help it flourish.

Are you at risk of viral hepatitis?

If so get tested and even get cured as treatments today can cure Hepatitis C and for you can get vaccinated for Hepatitis B , monitored and treated if needed too.  There are many drug and alcohol services locally where clean needle exchanges are available.

You only live once so why not start embracing your health now and making the changes that you need so that you can thrive, not just survive!  If you would like me to help you with your journey to better health (whether letting go of emotional baggage, overcoming trauma, changing your unhealthy habits and creating new ones or anything else) just get in touch as I would be delighted to offer you a complimentary 30 minute discovery call so I can find out more about your needs and share how I could help you with my personalised Hypnotherapy and Healing sessions.  I look forward to chatting further with you so just get in touch with me now:
