The National Day of Listening is an initiative that encourages people to set aside time to have meaningful conversations with family members, friends, colleagues and acquaintances. It emphasizes the importance of active listening and capturing the stories and experiences of individuals, thereby strengthening relationships and preserving personal histories.
Very often we are so busy in our own lives that we do are not completely present in a conversation. How present are you when talking to others? Do you often try to multitask and only listen to some of the conversation?
By being present in a conversation not only do you improve your connection with the other person but you also bring yourself into the present moment and when you are in the present moment you cannot be anxious or depressed so by actively listening to others throughout the day you are actually helping yourself in more ways than you think!
Connections are so important to creating a healthy society. We should all connect, chat and listen more. As you go about your day today you may wish to try speaking to others more whether it’s your family, friends, colleagues or passersby and notice how it makes you feel.
