Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a type of anxiety disorder which occurs after being involved in or witnessing traumatic events. Commonly referred as ‘shell shock’ after war veterans but anyone who experiences a traumatic experience can get PTSD.
When something traumatic happens the world can seem like a very unsafe place. Following the trauma it is normal for it to impact upon you. For example:-
It is normal to experience the above following a traumatic event. However, if you are still experiencing difficulties more than one month after the event then you should seek help at the earliest opportunity. If left untreated PTSD might impact detrimentally on other areas of your life for example: looking after yourself, holding down your job, maintaining relationships and friendships, making informed decisions, reduced sex drive and enjoying your leisure time.
Hypnotherapy is used to help people experiencing PTSD by reducing the heightened state of alert in their mind and mentally dealing with the situation experienced. This helps to enable the person to change their perception of the perceived future risks at a sub-conscious level and embed healthier approaches to coping with everyday living in the future. In addition to hypnotherapy other therapeutic approaches which may also be used includes cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, thought field therapy (tapping) and spiritual healing.
Dependent on the trauma involved PTSD clients typically take a little longer to treat because they may need additional support and reassurance.  Lisa will provide you with the expected number of sessions required at the first consultation.
